Scheduled Reports Now Deliver Filtered, Tabbed Dashboards
Scheduled reports are supposed to save you time, not create a second job. Yet for years, automated dashboard delivery came with a catch: you'd build a rich, multi-tab dashboard with carefully applied filters, schedule it, and recipients would still get a stripped-down default view with the wrong tab and the filters reset. So teams worked around it, duplicating dashboards per audience, keeping parallel "report-only" copies, or exporting by hand every Monday morning.
Today we're closing that gap. Preset's Reports and Alerts now capture the selected dashboard tab along with its applied filters in scheduled deliveries. The view you configure is the view your recipients get.
What changed
When you set up a scheduled report on a dashboard, Preset now respects two things that used to get lost in automation:
- The selected tab. Multi-tab dashboards deliver the specific tab you picked, not just the first one or a flattened default.
- The applied filters. Native filter values you've set carry into the scheduled render, so a report scoped to a region, team, or time window arrives already scoped.
One dashboard can now power many tailored reports: a single source of truth feeding audience-specific deliveries, with no clones and no manual exports.
Why it matters
Filtered, tabbed scheduled delivery reads like a small feature, but it removes a whole category of busywork:
- Fewer duplicate dashboards. Stop maintaining a separate dashboard per recipient group just to control what a report shows.
- Reports people actually trust. When the scheduled report matches the live dashboard, same tab and same filters, recipients stop second-guessing whether they're looking at the right numbers.
- Less manual exporting. The Monday-morning "export and email" ritual goes away.
What this means for you
For years, getting the right tab and filters to the right person meant cloning dashboards or exporting by hand every week. Now one dashboard can serve everyone, with each recipient getting the slice that's relevant to them:
- Business users get a report already scoped to their world. A regional sales lead receives the EMEA tab, filtered to their accounts, every Monday morning without logging in or reapplying a filter.
- Analysts and data teams stop maintaining a separate dashboard per audience. One well-built dashboard feeds every scheduled report, so there are fewer copies to keep in sync and fewer manual exports to run.
- Decision makers can trust that the snapshot in their inbox matches the live dashboard, same tab and same filters, so the summary they act on is the one the team actually built.
How it compares
Filtered dashboards as scheduled alerts and reports are table stakes that much of the analytics market is still catching up to:
- Tableau Server/Cloud starts at a Creator seat and still handles multi-tab scheduled exports clumsily, so teams fall back to workarounds to get the right view into someone's inbox.
- Looker supports scheduled Looks with filters, but native multi-tab dashboard scheduling isn't there.
- Metabase scheduling is basic: no tab awareness and limited filter pass-through.
- Mode and Hex offer weak-to-nonexistent scheduled dashboard delivery.
